Installing TomTom 5

When I start to install TT 5 onto my Palm T|X from my PC running Win XPH, I get the following error message:

No compatible PC connection software was found. Please install the PC
connection software supplied with your handheld device.

Any suggestions, please? In all other ways, Hotsync works fine.

This comes far too late for Malcolm, I'm afraid, but others encountering the same problem may find this useful.

I only recently purchased TT6 Navigator and after a short period of puzzlement I found the correct procedure (instructions can be found on Tomtom website, actually) for my Palm TX.

On Palm devices, connected to PC with Hotsync, you can't install Tomtom software directly with Hotsync. Instead, the procedure goes like this:

1. Install TT Home 1.5x software in your PC.

2. Start TT Home and select "Install to Tomtom".

3. Insert an empty, formatted SD card into the card reader connected to your PC. Now, there should be a box on the right of the screen showing SD card, something like "1.8 GB free" (depending on the size of the card, obviously).

4. In the center of the screen, select "CD" to browse the installation CD.

5. Select "Palm application" and the desirable mapping file.

6. Selecting the above, big arrow named "Install" lights up on top of the screen. Tap it. Software and map are installed to the card. After that, you should see
free space in the card has decreased and installed items are shown underneath.

7. If desired, continue installing safety camera positions and other POIs you'd like to use.

8. To be on the safe side, make a backup of the card.

9. In the lower left corner of the screen, click My Device for safe removal of the SD card.

10. Remove the card and insert it into your Palm. TT6 Navigator starts automatically.

11. Lastly; in settings, select the desired map file and correct GPS receiver. That's it!

PS. If you are using PalmPowerups DynaClock, let Navigator have max system performance in order to make it running properly.

Hi Lemstil,

you wrote TT6 but all dealears for TT I spoken to say TT6 is not compatible with Palm TX. Have you really installed TT6 on your TX?

I'm running on ViaMichelin and want to switch to TT but TT5 doesn't look so good. I have also searched TT website for the information regarding TT6 and Palm TX you refer too but can't find anything.

Anybody else reading this is most welcome with comments.

Well, dealers are right - and not.

NOTE! This is how I did it, but I can't promise you it'll work for you.

In order to get TTN6 working properly on TX, I installed three extra pieces of software:

1. Dynamic memory heap "flushing", freeware Flus**t! (You could also use more sophisticated Palmpowerups' UDMH, but I haven't tried that)

2. SD card cache S/W Softick Cache

3. Palmpowerups' WarpSpeed. Speed setting for TTN6 around 300 MHz should suffice, any higher setting makes the risk of TX to crash (resulting in a warm boot) more imminent. This last one isn't absolutely necessary, but makes TTN6 operation a bit smoother.

Fortunately, TTN6 remembers the last target set before boot and resumes navigation to that target automatically, when restarted.

Hint: Booting TX before starting TTN6 makes TX more stable.

So, TTN6 do work on Palm TX, but even with those extra pieces of S/W TX tends to "hickup" some times. I just arrived from a two-week trip and most of the time TX / TTN6 worked just fine all day, TX "hickups" occured only 5 times in all. And even then, TTN6 was back "online" in couple of minutes.
