So... I heard that the HTC Hero does not work with American SIM

What about Arabian SIMs. Does it work or just need to Change some Settings First ?

The Hero will work fine with an American SIM, you just won't get 3G unless you purchase the US variant.

As for the Middle East, well here are the specs, you just need to check with your network.
